One of the most celebrated holidays in the United States is Halloween; however, we no longer only associate it with the creepy black-hatted, wart-on-the-nose kind of witch. TV shows and movies depict a sexier, more altruistic side of witches, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves—The Good Witch, The Witches of the East End, Charmed, Salem, and the entire Twilight series.
Characters associated with this spooky season are much more complex and multi-dimensional today. Items and symbols of folklore are still entwined in the stories, with references to cauldrons, black cats, a stake through the heart, but so often the storyline follows a love story. Witches are with humans, werewolves marry vampires, and their love children turn out to be who knows what. A “witch-man”? A “were-pire”? One thing it does create is a new found popularity in ghouls, goblins, witches, fairy tales and the like—not just for the autumn season.
Orchidia has adopted this trend as our theme for fall. We are introducing “The Season of the Witch,” a creative line using the new found interest in things that go “bump in the night.” We’ve put together fragrances that follow the sexier, 21st century view of fall and Halloween.
